Shaykh Muhammad Adil is the 41st Leader and Shaykh of the Golden Chain of the Most Distinguished Naqshbandī Ṭarīqah. He is the living master of the Naqshbandi way, and the inheritor of the secret passed on from Sayyidna Muḥammad ﷺ, to Sayyidinā Abū Bakr As-Siddīq all the way to Mawlana Shaykh Muḥammad Nāẓim Adil al-Ḥaqqānī, the late father and Shaykh of Mawlana Shaykh Muhammad Adil.
Shaykh Muhammad Mehmet Adil ar-Rabbani was born on 29 March 1957 in Damascus, Shām. He resides in the village of Akbaba of Beykoz district, Istanbul, Turkiye. He is the oldest son of Sultan-ul ‘Awliyā Mawlana Shaykh Muḥammad Nāẓim Adil al-Ḥaqqānī and Hajjah Amina Adil Sultan. As Mawlana Shaykh Nazim’s successor, Shaykh Muhammad is now the 41st Leader and Shaykh of the Golden Chain of the Most Distinguished Naqshbandī Ṭarīqah.
Shaykh Muhammad is of Turkish Cypriot descent. His father and guide Shaykh Muḥammad Nāẓim Adil al-Ḥaqqānī is of the lineage of the founder of the Qadiriyyah ṭarīqah, Abdul-Qādir Jīlānī, while his great grandmother is of the lineage of the founder of the Mawlawi ṭarīqah, Mawlana Jalāluddīn Rumi. According to the lineage in the Nāqib al-Ashraf records, his lineage goes back to the family of our Prophet Sayyidna Muḥammad ﷺ, and is Ahlu l-Bayt from his father’s side. His mother, Hajja Amina Adil Sultan, is the daughter of a Tatar family who migrated to Shām Sharif, through Anatolia of the Ottoman Empire due to the start of anti-religious policies of Communist countries of the time. She is originally from the village of Bakayevo, located near the Republic of Tatarstan, Russian Federation.
Shaykh Muhammad spent his youth in Syria’s capital, Damascus, under the guidance of both Sultan-ul ‘Awliyā Mawlana Shaykh ‘Abdu Llāh al-Fā’iz ad-Dāghestānī and Shaykh Nāẓim al-Ḥaqqānī, training in the manner and discipline of the Naqshbandī Ṭarīqah. He received his Islamic education studying Sharī’ah at the prestigious Al-Fatih Islamic Institute in Damascus.
Shaykh Nāẓim declared publicly before his death that the person to succeed him, i.e. his Khalīfa, would be Shaykh Muḥammad Adil. He took over the trust as the 41st Shaykh of the Naqshbandi Golden Chain with the passing of Shaykh Nāẓim on 7 May 2014. Since assuming this responsibility, Mawlana Shaykh Muḥammad has carried forward his father’s spiritual mission as the inheritor of our Prophet ﷺ, emphasizing the principles of faith, love, and humility. His leadership ensures the ongoing transmission of the teachings and practices of our Holy Prophet ﷺ that Mawlana Shaykh Nāẓim dedicated his life to spreading. Mawlana Shaykh Muḥammad is attributed with poise, humbleness and a merciful heart. He spends his time in service of the people purely for the pleasure of Allāh ﷻ. He travels around the world to different countries with the aim of spreading the religion of Islām. He meets his visitors who arrive from all around the world, young and old, one by one, and gives them advice and guidance.
